Effect of Concrete Materials on Permeability of Concrete Mixes Used in Mn/DOT Paving Projects

Status:  Complete
Report Date:  12/29/2009

Summary:

This report analyzed the mix designs and permeability of 230 concrete mixes from Minnesota paving projects paved between 2004 and 2008. Permeability was measured on cores according to ASTM C 1202, Standard Test Method for Electrical Indication of Concrete's Ability to Resist Chloride Ion Penetration. The researchers found that paying incentives or requiring aggregate gradations that meet the 8-18 requirement may not be necessary to produce concrete mixes with low permeability.
