Ultra-thin Bonded Wearing Course (UTBWC) Snow and Ice and Wind Effects

Status:  Active
Project Start Date:  04/04/2016

Summary:

Ultra-thin bonded wearing course (UTBWC) pavement treatment can be used as a preventive maintenance option or surface rehabilitation technique. It appears to provide an economical choice for pavements in need of minor rehabilitation. There have been observations that UTBWC is causing ice build-up in the wheel paths. The objective of this project is to better understand the correct applications for UTBWC and the adverse effects weather and maintenance have on it.
